Can we talk about dreams?! I'm not talking about the kind of dreams where you're back at your high school job and you're reliving a nightmare shift! I'm talking about the dreams where you ache to do something, be something, start something, own something, or just go somewhere! We, the women of the world, I think sometimes just ignore our dreams. We have other "more important" things to handle at the moment- dreams can wait! Or, maybe you know you have dreams but you never give it any time to think about. Or, maybe you've always had a dream- it's plastered up on your walls, kept safe in a notebook where you write all of your ideas and notes, but it's still not a reality for you.
Dreams can become a reality- It's a fact!
I believe with every ounce of my energy that if you want something bad enough, you will have it. I know there are so many obstacles- money and time seem to be at the top of everyone's list and fear of failure is another HUGE one.
One thing that really gets me are the people who are wanting to make their dreams a reality, yet still going to a 9-5 job that they despise. Is that you? Are you stilling at your desk wishing you were somewhere else? Or, watching the clock waiting for it to hit 4:45 so you can turn your computer off, and then you're waiting for the clock to strike 5 so you can get out of there fast? Life is too short to be wishing to be somewhere else- you should always be exactly where you want to be!
So, if you have a dream, an idea, a thought that you can't seem to shake, it might be time to actually do something about it.
Here's what I suggest:
1. Get it on paper. Get a notebook where you can write, take notes, write down your thoughts. If it's a dream to you can draw a picture of - draw. If it's a dream that needs a logo, create a logo. Figure out what it looks like as a business, or an idea to the public.
2. Figure out what you need. If your dream is to open a boutique- list the things you need. For instance: hangers, racks, reception desk, displays, tables, fitting rooms, credit card machine, social media pages, website, cash register, sign, tax ID numbers, accountant, wholesale accounts, logo...and more! Just make a list of things that you need- this will help to get your thoughts organized and it should motivate you!
3. Know the cost. Figure out exactly what this dream will cost you and then set a plan to make it happen. Maybe your dream is to travel to Europe for a month. Make a plan to save $200 each month for the next 3 years. Maybe you will set a plan to work extra shifts to put towards your travel dream. Maybe a fundraiser is something you could do. You may need to do a lot of research if your dream is something like opening an restaurant. Find out how much every piece of that restaurant will cost- from chairs to ovens.
4. Make a plan. Once you have your idea on paper, you know what you need, and you know how much it's going to cost it's time to make it happen! Dreams and ideas won't come to life in a day, a month or even a year. Sometimes it could take years! It's okay, just make the plan for how you're going to make it happen and don't forget to give it a timeline!
If you're waiting for a sign, this is it. Don't put off your dreams any longer. Do what you want to do, be where you want to be and be ready to feel a sense of accomplishment. With all of my businesses, I've always started with the mission statement and logo. Once you give your dream an identity- a look that you can actually see and visualize, it's so motivational.
As always, go SLAY the day and make your dreams a reality! Nobody is stopping you, just make the plan and take some action!
